The messy story surrounding MindsEye developer Build a Rocket Boy may be approaching its final chapter.
Multiple employees have announced that they are being made redundant, with some suggesting that virtually everyone remaining at the studio is now being let go.
Lead weapon and prop artist Adam Ridsdale said he was facing redundancy “along with the rest of my colleagues”, while senior VFX artist Jason Waller similarly said that everybody left at Build a Rocket Boy appeared to be affected.
The studio hasn’t formally announced that it is closing, so at the moment this isn’t a confirmed shutdown.
But the employee comments don’t exactly sound encouraging.
Build a Rocket Boy has spent more than a year dealing with the fallout from the troubled launch of MindsEye, layoffs and a genuinely bizarre saga surrounding claims that the game had been targeted by sabotage.
Despite continuing to update the game, the studio has struggled to escape the controversy surrounding its launch.
If today’s redundancies really do involve virtually the entire remaining workforce, it’s difficult to see what comes next.
From huge pre-release ambitions to employees apparently preparing to leave en masse.
MindsEye has been one of the stranger gaming stories of the last couple of years, and it may finally be reaching the end.
